Bradley DeWayne Deetz, 46, of Vincennes, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born October 22, 1967 in Angola, Indiana, the son of Ronnie and Nancy (Hayward) Deetz.At the age of 16, he started his first job for radio station WBTU in Ft. Wayne. After graduating from Prairie Heights High School he enrolled at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana, to hone his craft. He was then hired as the afternoon on-air personality for WFML. It was during this time at WFML that Kristi Renee' Bowman was assigned to read the afternoon news during his air shift. They were married on August 3, 1991.In 1993, Brad joined Old Northwest Broadcasting as operations manager and "morning guy" for WWBL and continued on with the Original Company. In 2007, he joined DLC Media, Inc. He then advanced to the position of general manager for WAMW AM-FM in Washington, WAXI-FM in Rockville, and WFML-FM which is owned by Vincennes University. He was the morning voice for The MAX along with News Director Dave Foster. This year marked his 30th year in broadcasting.Brad strongly believed in making a contribution to his community and volunteered his talents. His civic activities included being a deputy for the Knox County Sheriff's Reserves, a board member for the Old Northwest Territory of the American Red Cross, and a member of Masonic Lodge #1 in Vincennes. He also served as Treasurer/Secretary of the holding corporation for the new Rainbow Beach. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.Brad's greatest passion was life as a family man. He was a loving husband and dedicated father who was involved in everyway from camping with Boy Scout Troop 210 to grilling hamburgers at concession stands, being a soccer coach to a dance dad, and most recently, serving with his wife as co-presidents of the Clark Middle School/Lincoln High School Band Boosters. He even drove the activity bus for the percussion section. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting with his friends, outdoor activities, touring the countryside by motorcycle, and relaxing on the deck or tinkering in the garage while listening to music.Carrying his spirit forward are his wife of 22 years, Kristi, son Kenneth Dewayne (16) and daughter Elizabeth Kay (12); mother and stepfather, Nancy and Ron Wheeler of Jacksonville, Florida; brother Allan Deetz, his wife Tracy and sons Alec, Tyler, and Travis of York, Pennsylvania; grandmother Dorothy (Moore) Deetz of Hudson; stepmother Sherry Deetz of Martinsville; siblings Rohna Deetz of Franklin and her daughters Taniqua and Alexandria; Ronnie Deetz II and his sons Ronnie, Shane, and Daniel and daughter Makayla; Matthew Deetz and his daughter Trinity and son Neo; parents by marriage James Kenneth and Shirley Ann Bowman; sister Kelley Bowman Crowley and her daughter Evelyn; in addition to, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.Preceding Brad in death was his father Ronnie and three grandparents, Keith Deetz, and Ray and Glenna Hayward.Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at First United Methodist Church in Vincennes. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church on Tuesday with the Masonic Funeral Ritual at 1:45 pm.Memorial contributions may be made to the CMS/LHS Band Boosters with envelopes available at the church or submitted by mail to Band Boosters, PO Box 591, Vincennes, Indiana.In addition, DLC Media, Inc. President Dave Crooks and wife Shelly have established a college scholarship fund for Kenny and Elizabeth.
