Joseph Angelus Mohammed, M.D., 78, passed away at 9:35 pm on January 19, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on May 5, 1943, to the late Gerard H. and Ottis (Ali) Mohammed in San Fernando, Trinidad, West Indies. An accomplished and hard-working man, Dr. Mohammed was a very thorough and knowledgeable Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist who served the area for many years. He began his career in 1970 after graduating from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of The West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. During this time, he spent a year abroad at the College of London. In 1971, he served his internship at the General Hospital in San Fernando, Trinidad. In 1979, he finished his OB/GYN residency at the University of Ottawa Hospitals in Ottawa, Canada, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He moved his family to Mt Carmel, IL and opened a medical practice at Wabash General Hospital. In 1988, he relocated his clinic to Vincennes, IN. He retired in 2019 from Good Samaritan Hospital. In addition to being a hard-working physician, Dr. Mohammed was a dedicated family man. He married the love of his life Reita Delores (Scott) on July 7, 1969. Knowledgeable on multiple subjects, he was known for his cool demeanor, dry sense of humor, and sly smile. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, followed politics closely, and had an avid interest in space science and our place in the universe. He loved exotic cuisine, calypso music, and art. Dr. Mohammed is survived by his wife Reita, and sons Gerry Mohammed Scott of Morrow, OH; Chris Mohammed and his spouse Raina Mohammed of Evansville, IN; and Michael Mohammed and his spouse Jonathan Smucker of San Francisco, CA; his grandchildren Logan and Gia Scott; and his sisters Margaret and Olive Mohammed both of Princes Town, Trinidad. A funeral mass will be performed on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 11 am at St. John's Catholic Church, 803 Main St. Vincennes, IN and will be live streamed. Friends may visit with Dr. Mohammed's family from 9:30 am until the hour of the service at the church. A reception and celebration of life will follow at Knights of Columbus, 401 Felt King Rd., Vincennes, IN at 12:15 pm.
