Carmia Louise Howder, 87, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on November 20, 2025, at her residence in Vincennes.
She was born on July 26, 1938, to the late Cyril & Lottie (Carson) Williams at home in Orville, Indiana, & she spent her adolescent years growing up near the Wabash River with her 18 siblings.
Carmia married the love of her life, John Nelson Howder on December 27, 1954, and they shared over twenty years of marriage before his passing on November 22, 1975. Together, they had five children: Johnny, Cindy, Douglas, Rita, and Jeff.
Carmia worked as a homemaker for most of her life, making sure the household ran efficiently for her family. She was proud of her family and loved them deeply.
In her free time, she enjoyed going to thrift stores and shopping, working crossword puzzles & books, and watching game shows, particularly the Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal. She also enjoyed watching HGTV in her later years.
Carmia is survived by her children, Cindy Castillo of Vincennes, IN, & Douglas Howder of Vincennes, IN; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nelson Howder; her children, Johnny Howder, Rita Davis, and Jeff Howder; daughter-in-law Penny Howder, and son-in-law Hoyt Davis; and her great-grandchild, Cameron White.
Visitation for Carmia will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 11:00-12:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A graveside burial will follow visitation at Memorial Park Cemetery.
