Chester Michael Sutton, also known as Bubba Sutton, was born on February 14th, 1950, to Chester Sutton and Betty Blair-Sutton and entered eternal rest on October 31st, 2026. Bubba married the love of his life, Amanda Sutton, on June 4th, 2022. Bubba went to 1st grade at Purcell Station and continued school at Decker until his senior year of high school, when the 4 county schools consolidated to become South Knox High School. He was a graduate of the class of 1968 and played basketball and baseball during his high school career. At age 16 he began driving a truck for Stangle's Grain Elevator and Mr. Stangle was the person who took him to the BMV to get a chauffeur's license. He was then legal to drive their grain trucks to Terre Haute. He worked for Mr. Stangle until June of 1969 when he enlisted in the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. Semper-Fi! Bubba served his country proudly from 1969-1971. He is a Vietnam Veteran who saw combat during his time with the Corps. After joining the USMC, he was sent to boot camp in San Diego, CA which is where he received his draft letter. He always assumed he would be drafted, so he joined the branch he wanted to instead of waiting to be told which branch he would be enlisted into. His draft number was 7. Bubba was a proud USMC veteran! He came home from Vietnam in 1971 and began building a life with his two hands. He went back to work for the grain elevator before moving to Arkansas, where he worked for Brown and Root Construction. He was also a welder for most of his life. He moved back to Vincennes to be closer to his father while having multiple welding jobs and driving a delivery truck in Evansville. After many years of welding and truck driving, he was hired at Peabody Coal Mine, where he worked underground for 18 years. For 18 years he worked at Air Quality Mine, which is west of Wheatland, IN. Through years of hard work and dedication he worked his way up the rankings and became shift boss at the mine. There was an immense mutual respect between both him and the crew members that worked under him. Air Quality Mine ended up shutting down and he was then transferred to Francisco mine. He was there for 8 months and retired shortly after. He always said that the Francisco mine never felt safe and that he was so glad to be able to finally retire. He made many friends over the years of being a coalminer, and he always cherished those friendships. Outside of working, Bubba spent many years fishing in the Wabash River.

Whether it be fishing by bank pole, trout line, nets, limb lines or just hand lining he loved being on that river. Especially with another son he never had, Chuck Ray. He taught Chuck everything there was to know about that river. Other hobbies of his included hunting in the cold fall/winter months and planting a garden in the spring to keep his dad's tradition of having a full garden alive and well. He was a jack of all trades. From a Vietnam veteran to a welder, underground coalminer, fisherman, gardener and even at one point ran Pappy's Deer Processing. Most importantly, though, he was a family man. He was a loving and caring husband, father to 4 daughters, a stepfather to 1 stepdaughter, and grandpa to many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one special little boy, Karsyn, that called him Papa Mike. Although he had no sons, there were 3 special men that he considered sons; Scott Wood, Jeff Wood, and the one that has been by our side, his nephew Juriah Sutton. Juriah carries on the Sutton name. Bubba has lived a long, fulfilling life, and has made many friends over the years, such as Brad Montgomery, whom he considered a brother.

Bubba has battled colon & lung cancer since 2021. During this time, he underwent many radiation treatments as well as several rounds of chemotherapy. In June of 2026, he made the decision to end chemotherapy treatments. His body was so tired of doing it and of the side effects that it produced. He just wanted to live the rest of his life to the fullest, and live it is what he did! There are tons of stories we could sit and tell, but if you knew Bubba then you already know those stories. He was truly a wonderful old-souled man who had a heart of gold and whom will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife Amanda Sutton of Vincennes, Indiana, daughters Stephanie Moya of Ashdown, Arkansas, Terri Dawn (Mark) Cobb of Echo, Louisiana, Danielle White of San Antonio, Texas, and Dorothy "Dottie" (LA) Jeansonne of Florala, Alabama as well as stepdaughter Jennie (Jordan) Soderling of Evansville, Indiana. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Cathy Wilson of Ingraham, Illinois, father-in-law Steve Wilson of Ingraham, Illinois, brothers-in-law Travis (Jessica) Wilson of Clay City, Illinois, Trenton Wilson of Louisville, Illinois, and Trevor (Amber) Wilson of Flora, Illinois. He is also survived by one sister, Millissa (Charlie) Duffey of Vincennes, Indiana, as well as nephews, Juriah Sutton of Vincennes, Indiana, Chad Sutton of St. Francisville, Illinois and Chas Duffey of Indianapolis, Indiana, and nieces Millissa Kurcinka of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elizabeth Sutton of St. Francisville, Illinois. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as 11 Grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and his beloved fur babies Mattie Sue and Queenie. Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, and a brother, Steve Sutton.

Visitation for Bubba will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 4:00-8:00pm ET at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Goodwin-Sievers, beginning at 10am. Following the service, military rites will be conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery.
