Cooper Daniel Schuckman, 16, of Washington, Indiana went to his heavenly home on June 7, 2025.
Cooper was born on April 29, 2009. His two loves were his family and farming. And in Cooper’s life, those two things were intricately intertwined. Much of his time was spent helping his family tend to their fields and working on various equipment in the shop. He completely and without reservation embraced the importance and the beauty of living the farm life. He was an essential part of his family’s agricultural endeavors and was well respected for his knowledge of all things related to farming.
Cooper had just completed his freshman year at Washington High School where he was involved in many sports and activities. He played on the Hatchet basketball team all through his school years but his love for Hatchet basketball started well before he was old enough to play. Before he was in high school, he was asked to be a manager for the high school basketball team, and he did so with dedication and pride for several years. He was a member of the Distinxion basketball team, a member of the WHS golf team, and played football, baseball, and ran cross country in his earlier years. He was also a proud member of Washington’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chapter where he had recently been recognized with various awards for his attitude, involvement and agricultural experience.
Cooper had many accomplishments in his life, but he was most known and cherished for his witty jokes and sense of humor, his singing and entertaining impersonations, his intelligent and profound observations, and his kind and compassionate heart. He was good to everyone, without reason and without reservation. He had a close and special bond with his sister, Kyra, whom he loved and protected fiercely. His caring nature could be seen in his love for his beloved golden retriever, Shadow, and his other golden retriever, Yankee, who Cooper insisted his family rescue after realizing he’d been abandoned. He had many friends, many of whom were older than he was and could recognize and appreciate Cooper for having a wisdom well beyond his years. Cooper was a member of Bethany Christian Church and he lived out his Christian faith in his kindness towards others. He was a loving and caring son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, teammate, classmate and friend.
Waiting to welcome him into heaven were his grandfathers, Gerald Brad Burke and Daniel Lee Schuckman.
Surviving are his loving parents, Brandt and Kallie Schuckman, sister, Kyra Schuckman, grandmothers, Nancy Schuckman and Lynn Burke, aunt and uncle, Marcie and Richard Mayall, and their children Kendall, Burke and Ashlynn Mayall, uncle and aunt Matthew and Kristi Schuckman, and their children, Zachary Schuckman, Madison Schuckman Smith and Tate Schuckman.
Visitation for Cooper will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00am-2:00pm ET at The Hatchet House 608 E Walnut St., Washington, Indiana 47501. A funeral service will begin immediately at 2:00pm with Pastor Matt Merold officiating. Interment will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens.
