With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cyrus Darrell Deem, better known as Darrell, a cherished husband and father, devoted dentist, and a vibrant spirit who enriched the lives of so many. Born on February 18, 1957, in Vincennes, IN the son of Cyrus Alexis and Carrol (Osborne) Deem. Darrell embraced life with a zest that resonated deeply within his family, friends, and his community. 

As the owner and operator of Deem Dentistry, he dedicated countless hours to caring for the community, treating his patients as treasured companions on the journey of health and happiness. His office was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and the camaraderie of a devoted staff that he regarded as family. 

A faithful member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Darrell found solace in his faith and lived a life of generosity and care through it. Together with his loving wife, Shelly, he and his family explored the beauty of the world, creating memories that sparkled with joy and adventure. The couple epitomized partnership, sharing a love that was inspiring and committed.

Darrell was also an avid fan of Indiana University athletics, proudly cheering for his team through thick and thin. Additionally, he discovered a passion for pickleball-an endeavor he pursued with enthusiasm, frequently inviting others to join him and experience the thrill of the game.

 His zest for life and boundless love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Darrell leaves behind his devoted wife, Shelly Deem of Washington; his children, Meredith Deem of Washington, Austin Deem of Washington and, Maddie Deem of Indianapolis; his father Cyrus Deem and his wife Jean of Vincennes. Darrell is also survived by a community of friends who loved him dearly. Darrell is preceded in death by his mother, Carrol Deem, and his sister Cindy Deem.

Friends may visit with Darrell's friends from 3-8 pm on Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd St., Washington, IN 47501. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor and celebrate his remarkable life, where family and friends will gather in remembrance of the countless ways he touched lives at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Rev. Paul Ferguson and Rev. Tyler Underhill will co-celebrate, and Darrell will be laid to rest in St. John Cemetery.

The Deem family has requested memorial contributions be made in Darrell's name to support IU Student Athletes through the Athletics Director Team Fund, checks can be made out to the IU Foundation, P.O. Box 6460, Indianapolis, IN 46206, Washington YMCA or Washington Catholic Education Endowment Fund. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is privileged and honored to be entrusted with Darrell and his family.

In a world that may seem dimmer without him, we will cherish the light he brought into our lives, ensuring that his spirit endures in every laugh, every embrace, and every game of pickleball shared in his memory.
