Darrell Walters, who passed away on December 17th, 2025, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on December 11, 1940, to Adlai and Olive (Frankum) Walters. Darrell was a proud lifelong member of the Decker Chapel community.

On October 22, 1961, Darrell married the love of his life, Mildred "Mid" Young, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 64 years and stood as a foundation for their family. Together, they had two daughters, 4 grandkids and 12 great-grandkids.

Darrell graduated from Decker Chapel High School in 1958. In his personal life, he was known as a hardworking and dependable man who wore many hats. He spent much of his life farming, finding satisfaction in working the land. As a skilled carpenter, he took pride in building and fixing things with his own hands, always ready to help family, friends, or neighbors with a project. He continued his career at South Knox High School Corporation as Director of Maintenance for 19 years before retiring and becoming a bus driver; spending his mornings drinking coffee with the Verne Coffee Club. He approached his work with honesty, humility, and a strong commitment to providing for those he loved.

Beyond his work, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved baking, often sharing his pies and peanut butter fudge with family and friends. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He could frequently be found working on crossword puzzles, or relaxing while watching his favorite teams-the St. Louis Cardinals and IU basketball. He also enjoyed socializing weekly with his cardiac rehab crew.

Darrell will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved, A man of faith, he was deeply dedicated to his church, Decker Chapel United Methodist Church, where his commitment and service were an important part of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, his daughter Robin Stepanski (married to Roger Stepanski) of Benton, AR, his son-in-law Neal Stokeley of Vincennes, IN, his four granddaughters; Amber Harpe (married to Craig Harpe) of Decker, IN, Hannah McNickol of Benton, AR, Nicole Stokeley-Rice (married to Junior Rice) of Vincennes, IN, and Bailee Brooks (married to Sam Brooks) of Benton, AR, 12 great-grandchildren and his sister Norma Miley (married to Dale Miley) of Vincennes, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adlai and Olive (Frankum) Walters, his daughter, Regina (Walters) Stokeley, and his sisters, Shirley Hill, and Marilyn VanLue.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St, Vincennes, IN with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will be held at Memorial Park, Vincennes, IN. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Darrell and his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Decker Chapel United Methodist Church, 11627 South Hazelton Rd, Decker, IN 47524.
