Delema Loray Lindsay, 96, formerly of Otwell, went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2026, at The Meadows Senior Living in Nashville, TN. She was born on January 2, 1930, to the late John Herman Hill & Nina Lucille (Hulen) Hill-Whaley in Bicknell, IN.
Delema married the love of her life, James Lindsay, on July 28, 1946, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 1992. She was a devoted member of Otwell Wesleyan Church. Delema found great joy in her faith, fostering connections that transcended generations. Her love for sewing, crafting, playing the piano & singing provided endless inspiration to those around her, with her melodies encouraging countless gatherings filled with song and laughter. Delema’s culinary skills were legendary; her turkey and dressing became a staple at family gatherings, while her cherry delight was the centerpiece that brought smiles to all who were fortunate enough to indulge.
For many years, Delema embraced her role as a homemaker, pouring her heart into raising her children and creating a warm and welcoming home. Delema worked for several years as the Head Cook for the Putnamville school system, and later she honored her Otwell community as the activity director of the Otwell Senior Citizens Center, where she shared her passion for life through engaging activities, bringing joy and companionship to those she served.
Delema had a special fondness for yard sales and flea markets, where she found treasures that often became beloved keepsakes. Her zest for life and ability to find beauty in the simplest of things exemplified her vibrant spirit.
She is survived by her loving family which includes her children, Connie Helm, Janet Zehr and her husband Tim, Deborah Birk and her husband Douglas; her son-in-law, David Whitehead; her sister, Marlene Hodson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
