Donald Gene Banks met his Savior Jesus on October 23rd, 2025.
He was born on April 12, 1958, to Edward & Maxine (Johnson) Banks in Vincennes, Indiana. Don proudly graduated from South Knox High School in 1976, laying the foundation for a life devoted to learning and growth. His academic journey continued at Ivy Tech College, where he earned his degrees in CAD Design Technology and Manufacturing Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1998 and 2000, respectively. In 2006, he achieved his dream of obtaining a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, a testament to his commitment to excellence in his field.
On August 15, 1998, Don married the love of his life, Melonie (Byrd) Banks and they spent over 25 years together.
A lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church, Don was deeply involved in the community and served as a Deacon. His unwavering dedication was especially evident during the church's transitional periods, where he worked diligently to ensure its operations continued smoothly waiting for a new pastor to guide them. His spirit of service and kindness left a permanent mark on all who knew him.
Professionally, Don had a fulfilling career as a quality engineer at Hoosier Wheel and Stamping. His expertise and passion led him to transition into the sales department, where he traveled extensively across the United States and Canada, forging lasting relationships along the way.
Outside of work, Don was a man of many talents and interests. He had a passion for woodworking and carpentry, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his meticulous attention to detail. Don also enjoyed spending time on the water, embracing the serenity of boating and the thrill of motorcycle riding in his younger years. He cherished the simple joys of life, such as riding his bicycle, which allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the world around him.
Don’s love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did. He cultivated strong bonds that will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, generosity, and compassionate heart will be deeply missed.
Survivors of Don include his wife, Melonie Banks; his son, Aaron Banks; his father, Edward Banks; his sister, Lesa Banks Holscher and her husband Jeff; and several nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Banks on August 13, 2017; and his sister, Shelly Banks Goodwin on June 21, 2000.
Visitation for Don will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 9:00-11:00am ET at Grace Baptist Church 418 E Highland Ave., Washington, IN 47501. A funeral service will begin at 11:00am with Pastor Tony Ruble officiating. Following the service, Don will be laid to rest in the Wilson Creek Cemetery in Monroe City, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Grace Baptist Church. Donation envelopes will be provided.
