It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Katherine "Kate" Thacker, who peacefully departed this life on August 28, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on September 24, 1924, in Vincennes, Indiana, she was the daughter of Ira Earl and Jesse Cecil (Mattingly) Smith. She married Robert Thacker and he preceded her in death.
Kate devoted many years of her professional life to Security Bank, where she served as a beloved teller, known for her warm smile and friendly demeanor. Her dedication extended beyond her work; she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, finding fulfillment in her faith and community involvement. In her younger years, Kate was engaged in various local clubs, sharing her radiant spirit and kindness with all who crossed her path.
An avid volunteer, Kate spent countless hours at Good Samaritan Hospital, lending her support and compassion to those in need. However, her greatest joy came from the time she devoted to her family. She cherished every moment spent with her sons, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce Thacker and Brent Thacker and his wife Beth both of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Brooke Hill, Paige West and her husband Brett, Carson Thacker, Logan Thacker and his wife Kathryn; her great grandchildren, Riley, Bren and Kendal Hill, Lucy Thacker, Nora and Veda West, Elias Thacker, and Raelyn and Addison Thacker. Kate is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Jesse Smith and her husband, Robert Thacker.
Friends may visit with Kate's family and friends from 11:00 am until the hour of service time of 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN 47591 with Pastor Mike Flynn officiating. Kate will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert in Memorial Park Cemetery. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is privileged and honored to be entrusted with the care of Kate and her family.
Kate will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, and an inspiring figure in the lives she touched. Her warmth and affection will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
