John William “Bill” Farren, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at his residence in Washington. Bill lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and a boundless love for his family.
He was born on March 4, 1943, to the late William Jacob & Leona Pearl (VanWinkle) Farren. Bill served his country in the United States Army.
Born with a remarkable knack for fixing anything with an engine, Bill dedicated many years of his life to driving trucks before cementing his reputation as a skilled diesel mechanic at Graber Construction up until his retirement. His hands always busy, Bill embodied the spirit of hard work and perseverance.
An avid traveler and passionate fisherman, Bill lived by his own motto: “Get in a car and go.” Whether he was on a road trip or casting his line into the water, he cherished every moment spent exploring the great outdoors. His love for gardening further showcased his nurturing spirit, as he delighted in raising vegetables that he often shared with family and friends. Bill’s spirited personality shone through his well-known penchant for complaining—especially about the weather and government—bringing laughter and camaraderie to those around him. His greatest joy, however, came from his family. The adoration he held for his children and grandchildren was evident in every conversation, and his legacy will live on through their memories.
A proud member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles, and Bowling League, Bill fostered lifelong friendships and shared countless stories, underscoring his commitment to community and camaraderie. His jovial spirit and love for life will be dearly missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Farren; his parents, Leona and William; and his siblings, Bob Farren and Peggy (Bud) McDonald.
He is survived by his children, Angie (Jerry) Gottman, P.J. Farren, and Billy (Amy) Farren; his grandchildren, Jaycie (Ashton) Hooten, Kayton (Hunter) Hooten, Austin (Tabby) Farren, Hunter (Hailey Abel) Farren, Taylor (Cain) Mandabach, Brianna (Curt) Potts, Ronnie (May) Hamm, William Joyce, and Rylee Joyce; his two great-grandchildren; his brother, Jim Farren; and his sister, Kay (John Brown) Walls. Visitation for Bill will be held on April 17, 2026, from 11:00am-1:00pm ET at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. A celebration of life will follow beginning at 1:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers. Military rites will be conducted following the service.
