John R. Little, 89, of Vincennes, Indiana passed away on March 29, 2026. He was born in Troy, Indiana on June 9, 1936, to the late John A. and Leona G. Little. John graduated from Troy High School in 1954 and continued his education at Vincennes University. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp serving tours in Okinawa, Japan. After returning from his service, John became an Indiana State Police Officer working from 1960-1983 before retiring as a first sergeant and commander of the post for Vanderburgh and Dubois County. During his long career with the Indiana State Police, he was a part of the first riot squad, bomb squad, instructor at the Indiana State Police Academy, as well as being a certified scuba diver and paving the way for the first Indiana State Scuba Diving Team. After his retirement from the Indiana State Police Force he continued working for 15 years with INDOT as a safety director.

In addition to loving his career, John also enjoyed his YMCA Membership, riding both motorcycles and bicycles, camping, hiking, hunting, and competing in archery competitions with his wife Delores. John will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents John A. and Leona G. Little; wife Delores Little; beloved dog Cato; granddaughter-in-law Cammie Hopper; and best friend Ron Davis.

John is survived by his children Faith (Jack) Hopper, Mike (Margaret) Little, Mark (Gena) Little; sister Dorothy "Dot" (David) Dowrick; grandchildren Aaron Hopper, Andrew Anson, Mandy (Jim) Hatton, Tessa (Cody) Boger, Taylor (Nick Hosch) Little, Brayden Little; great-grandchildren Josh Schaller, Zack Nickless, Maggie Boger, Jamie Hatton, Heath Boger, Audrey Boger; great-great-grandchild Casen Shoulders; close friends Mike Clark and Taylor Hunt; companion Karen McCloud.

Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Little. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 524 Broadway Street from 11 - 1. The Funeral service will begin promptly at 1 pm with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery following immediately with military rites.

The family would like to give special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, especially Regina and Justice, along with all the caring staff at Harrison Spring Health Campus.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Pike Animal Welfare Shelter in John's honor.
