John David Richardson, 63, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, formerly of Washington, Indiana, passed away recently at his residence.

John was born on May 10, 1963, in Washington, Indiana, to Verne and Yvonne (Couch) Richardson. He earned both his undergraduate degree in accounting and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University. He spent his early career in El Paso, Texas, before returning to Washington, Indiana, to continue his work with NASCO Industries.

John was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He knew no stranger and was always willing to help others, whether they were family, friends, or someone he had just met. His compassion extended beyond those closest to him, as he served as a CASA volunteer with Mesilla Valley CASA, advocating for children in need.

John had a lifelong love for dogs and was a devoted supporter of all animals. He was a passionate volunteer with Friends for Animals and had a special place in his heart for older shelter dogs, often adopting them to give them a second chance at a loving home.

John cherished time with his family, especially his nieces, nephews, great-niece, and great-nephew. He was a highly skilled STRAT-O-MATIC basketball player, which led to friendships all over North America. He was also an avid Monopoly player, always the banker and a notorious cheater, and was known for being a ruthless Risk player. John loved competition, but even more, he loved the friendships and memories created along the way.

He is survived by his brother, Bill (Judy) Richardson; his sisters, Susan Wildridge and Kate (John) Stein; his nephews, Nathan and Tanner Wildridge, Ivan and Bodie Stein; his nieces, Hannah Richardson (Carrick McDonald), Blythe Wildridge, and Haley Richardson; his great-niece, Kinley Carson; his great-nephew, Tate Wildridge; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Yvonne Richardson, and his brother-in-law, David Wildridge.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John's life at Ironwood Social on Sunday, September 20, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. In his honor, wear your favorite t-shirt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Daviess County Friends for Animals or Daviess County Historical Society Museum.
