Larry R. McCracken, 87, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed peacefully on June 2, 2025, surrounded by love and family in Greenwood, Indiana. Born to Ray and Hollis (Scarlett) McCracken, Larry was the cherished oldest brother in a family of seven siblings.

A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Esther (Evans) McCracken, who he married on March 17, 1957, Larry spent 57 beautiful years by her side before her passing on October 15, 2014. His steadfast love and unwavering support were especially evident during Esther's courageous battle with cancer.

Larry graduated from West Baden High School and furthered his education at Indiana Central College. He established a fulfilling career as the Director of Materials Management at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, where he dedicated many years of service. He attended First United Methodist Church where he grew in his faith.

A lover of the outdoors, Larry found joy in hunting, fishing, and gardening. He cherished the memories of his father teaching him and his brothers the joys of these activities. Larry and Esther enjoyed annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota, summers at Kentucky Lake, and warm winters in Okeechobee, Florida all with dear friends. He and Esther were known for hosting lively family fish fries. Larry enjoyed coaching softball and had great fun at summer tournaments. Larry's practical skills allowed him to fix almost anything, often found tinkering in his garage.

Larry's heart was full of pride for his family, especially his two grandsons, Dr. Scott O'Brien and Matt O'Brien, as well as his great-granddaughter, Rose Esther (Rosie) O'Brien. He and Esther treasured their weekends attending sporting events, cheering for the boys, and celebrating life's milestones. They also were very proud and supported their daughter at all her activities and traveled extensively, rarely missing a game.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Janice O'Brien (Patrick) of Greenwood, Indiana; two grandsons, Dr. Scott O'Brien (Maxine) of Richmond, Indiana, and Matthew O'Brien (Alison) of Carmel, Indiana; and his great-granddaughter, Rosie O'Brien of Carmel. He leaves behind two sisters, Betty Fausnacht of Vincennes and Kathy Pickens of Brownsburg, and two brothers, Mike McCracken (Kathy) of Vincennes and Gene McCracken (Janice) of Bedford. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Esther, his parents, Ray and Hollis, and two brothers, Robert (Bob) McCracken and Richard (Dick) McCracken.
