Leroy
Barley
Jul 13, 1936 — Oct 29, 2026
Washington, Indiana
Leroy Barley, 90, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on October 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Leroy was born at home just north of Epson in Bogard Township, on one of the hottest days recorded, July 13th, 1936. It was so hot, his dad slept outside on the porch with him all night long.
Leroy was a lover of the farm life that was instilled in him through his parents, Ethel (Franklin), Barley & Arnold Barley.
He considered his sister Verline Hill & his brother Leo Barley his best friends. Leroy was a man of few words, yet solemn wisdom with a funny wit that he reserved for his children Shannon & (Jim) Misner, Sandra & (Bill) Wever, Stacey & (Tim) Johnston, Angela “Sue” Barley and Stuart Barley.
Leroy served with the 152nd Infantry Regiment Army National Guard. He was an avid bowler & a Washington Hatchet Super Fan. He graduated from Washington High School and soon after he married Jacqueline Sue (Remmel) on August 22, 1957. They were married 62 years, having the five children mentioned above.
Leroy loved his old Allis Chalmer & Farmall tractors, chewing Redman, & camping weeks at a time with his family. After retirement, he loved early mornings at the White Steamer and shooting the shit with the guys. Growing up, Pinto was his favorite Pony. Leroy farmed while working for 22 years at McCord’s, then General Electric, & lastly for the City of Washington.
He lived a simple life & thrived on that nightly bowl of ice cream.
His legacy is his grandchildren, Mallory Paitaris, Zachary Misner, Taryn Martin, Tyson Wever, Jance Johnston, Justine Osobrne, and Jayden Barley; has well as 13 great-grandchildren.
When you think of Super Man, Batman, or the Hulk, you may thing of a Superhero; but we think of our dad. Rest Easy, Old Man. We will see you in the funny papers.
