Melvin (Mel) C. Robinson, 79, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Mel was born on September 27, 1946, in Tennyson, Indiana, to parents Marvin and Loretta Robinson. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1964. He spent many years of his career, and later retired from Jones and Sons in Washington, Indiana.
He was known for his gentle spirit, generosity, and the deep love he held for his family. He valued hard work and honesty, instilling these values in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a servant of the Lord, who led a life guided by faith and kindness, and was a devoted member of New Hope Christian Church. He participated as a scribe in the Journey to Bethlehem for years, spreading the teachings of Jesus Christ.
He was an avid and decorated raccoon hunter as a member of Daviess County Coon Club. He raised and trained champion coon dogs across decades of his life. In addition to hunting, he enjoyed traveling to his home in Florida, tinkering with mechanics in his at-home shop, reading western novels, and cultivating a garden in his backyard.
Mel met his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Judith (Judy), in 1989. Together, they shared a life and love of traveling by motorhome, exploring the United States. They both enjoyed camping, gathering with friends and family over a meal or a game, and helping others by volunteering in their community.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his five sons, Wayne Robinson, James Robinson, Michael (Melissa) Chestnut, Mark (Diane) Chestnut, Matthew (Andrea) Chestnut; and one daughter, Mary Ann (Steve) Padgett. Also mourning his loss are his twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren, his siblings, Vince (Nancy) Robinson, Mark (Jan) Robinson, Aaron (Doris) Robinson, Rex (Nancy) Robinson, Blaze Robinson, and Elaine (Fred) Inkenbrandt, many loving nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Loretta Robinson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norbert “Dutch” and Helen Schuetz; siblings, Chad Robinson, and Mona (Donald) Spaetti, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerald “Jerry” and Joyce Schuetz.
Please join us in celebrating his life, Friday, September 11, 2026, between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, with the service starting at 12:00 pm at New Hope Christian Church, 559 E 100 S Washington, Indiana 47501.
