Norman Eugene Abel

Norman Eugene Abel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Vincennes, Indiana, on July 18, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on December 8, 1949, in Vincennes, Norman was a steadfast presence in the lives of many, known for his unwavering love and support.

Norman dedicated his life to his family, often seen tinkering and fixing things around the house-a true testament to his knack for problem-solving. There wasn't a thing he couldn't mend, and his creations would stand the test of time, much like the legacy he leaves behind. In his quieter moments, Norman found joy in working on word puzzles, a passion that showcased his sharp mind and love for a good challenge.

He proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting on August 11, 1969, and achieving the rank of Specialist 4 before being discharged on August 10, 1971. Norman was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Sharpshooter (M14), two overseas Bars, Air Medal, and Good Conduct Medal (1st Award) for his honorable service, reflecting his dedication and commitment to those around him.

Norman is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Abel, who he cherished deeply. Together, they created a home filled with love, warmth, and laughter, leaving lasting memories for all who knew them along with their four children: Kurt Abel, Kyle Abel (wife Charissa), Jessica Crosby (husband Dave), and Josh Abel (wife Jeannie). Norman is also survived by seven grandchildren, one sister, Joan Duncan (husband Ron), one brother, Melvin Abel, along with one niece, one nephew, and other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on July 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM, until service time at the Heritage Southern Baptist Church in Vincennes. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by his burial at Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:30 PM, located at 919 Willow Street, Vincennes, IN 47591.

Norman was preceded in death by his father, Francis Abel, his mother, Ona Abel, one son, Kurt Abel, and one brother, Don Abel.

Pallbearers will be David Crosby, Josh Abel, Grady Painter, Kevin Moan, Jim Shuppert, and
