John and Lela Hinkle had twins in April 1937. Jo Ann (later, Phoebe) was born first, then Jerry Allen. That they had the same initials was intentional. Phoebe passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 89 in Vincennes, Indiana

Phoebe was a spunky, adventurous farm girl who eventually earned a master's degree in education from ISU. She taught 3rd grade at Washington Elementary from 1971 to 1981 (except one year it was 2nd grade). She was a Rivet librarian and later worked part time at the Vincennes Public Library.

She went on many mission trips, including one that smuggled Bibles into China! She traveled to Israel multiple times and loved the holy land.

She was a devoted fan of Rivet girls' basketball, IU women's basketball, and Indiana Fever.

She had a great sense of humor. Above all, she had a huge heart of love for people and impacted countless lives! She was a very bright light, as in "you are the light of the world" (Matthew 5).

She was preceded in death by brothers Harlan, John, Todd, and Jerry. She is survived by sister Nancy Cobb, brothers Jack and Roger, daughter Lee Manchester, son Douglas, 3 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, and 2 great granddaughters.

Celebration of life service is Monday at noon. Visit with the family Sunday 2-4pm. Both at Goodwin-Sievers. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the "Guatemala missions" fund at Thursday Church.
