Ruby passed away on July 7, 2026, at 4:30 PM at Gentle Care Nursing Home in Vincennes, Indiana, at the age of 76.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ruby moved to Vincennes as a child. Her life’s journey later took her across the country, from the Midwest to the West Coast, the Southwest, and even Alaska, before she came in full circle and settled back home in Vincennes, IN.
A proud Veteran, Ruby first joined the Women’s Army Corps, completing her basic training and serving at Fort Harrison in Indianapolis, IN, before her discharge in 1974. Her commitment to service called her back in 1984 when she enlisted in the Army Reserve. Stationed first in Nebraska, she later traveled to Alaska in 1985 to serve as a Supply Clerk, eventually transitioning to inactive duty and receiving an honorable discharge in 1991.
Above all, Ruby’s heart belonged to her family. She loved her two children, Jesse and Sabrina, and was a dedicated grandmother to her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She cherished every moment spent with them, weaving her love into their lives.
Ruby’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted follower of Christ, she found community and fellowship in many congregations over the years, most recently as a cherished member of Vincennes First Church of God.
To know Ruby was to know a spirit of boundless generosity. She was a familiar, welcoming face in her community, known by all and loved by many. Ruby found true joy in helping and serving others, spending her time volunteering with numerous organizations, taking long walks, getting lost in a good book, and rooting for her grandchildren at their sports games. She was a genuinely considerate soul who constantly checked in on others and enjoyed conversations with truly anyone she met along the way.
Ruby was also a fighter. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2024, she faced the diagnosis with strength and resilience, fighting hard through every round of chemotherapy and radiation.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde R. and Catherine Poskitt; her brother, Clyde (Bud) T. Poskitt; and her sister, Dorothy Holt.
She is survived by her son, Jesse Easley, and his wife, Quenna Easley; her grandchildren, Paige, Kiera, Victoria, Jayden, Azaria, and Sawyer Easley; and her great-grandson, Oliver Tucker. She is also survived by her daughter, Sabrina DeVries, and grandchildren, Dorian DeVries and Declan Stevenson; as well as her sister, Violet Sinclair (Stan), and her brother, Alvie Poskitt.
A service celebrating Ruby's life will be announced at a later date.
“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it is about learning how to dance in the rain. Every day may not be good but find something good in every day. Laugh, Love, Live! Follow your dreams, believe in yourself, and remember to be awesome. Goodwin Sievers is honored and privileged for care of Ruby and her family.
