Ruth Ann Myers's Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Ruth Ann Myers, 89, of Washington, Indiana, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2026, at her home in Washington.

She was born in Shoals, Indiana, on October 27, 1936, to the late Rev. R.P. & Melissa (Jones) Hawkins.

Ruth Ann was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and later attended Indiana Central College. On February 26, 1956, she married the love of her life, John Myers. Together, they shared over 70 years of marriage.

Ruth Ann began her career at Indiana Bell in Washington and later worked at Daviess Community Hospital, where she served as executive secretary. Following her tenure at the hospital, Ruth Ann and her husband John opened Myers Flower & Bridal Shop in Washington in 1977. Ruth Ann and her husband operated the flower shop for many years, and in 1998 they sold the business and retired. After retiring from the flower shop, Ruth Ann found great love and enjoyment in making Gummdrop Dresses for little girls in the community.

Ruth Ann was a devoted member of Otterbein Bethel Methodist Church in Washington. Ruth Ann served as choir director for over 20 years and as organist for several years. She served as an officer and member in OUMC Committees and was a member of the Vincennes District United Methodist Women. In addition, she was a member of the Washington Boat Club, Let’s Go Camping Club, Arts & Flowers Club, and served as past president of Business & Professional Women.

Ruth Ann’s greatest loves in life were her family, her faith, and music. She also enjoyed camping, flower gardening and boating. She loved to travel the country, and her and John were blessed to visit every state in the lower 48. Ruth Ann was a tremendous seamstress and enjoyed doing it. She was involved in every community she lived in and was always busy no matter where she was. One of her favorite things was hosting parties, and throughout the years she made many get togethers special due to her preparation and fun spirit.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. R.P. & Melissa Hawkins; her siblings, Robert (Doris) Hawkins, William “Bill” (Bonnie) Hawkins, Wilma (Hubert) Dayhuff, and Rev. Alton (Pat) Hawkins; and her brother-in-law’s, Ralph (Rosemary) Myers, Dan (Judy) Myers, and Wayne Myers; and her sister-in-law, Reba (Mack) Allen

Ruth Ann is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Myers; her children, Kevin Myers and his wife Tammy, and Bret Myers and his wife Caroline; her grandchildren, Quintin Myers, and Allyssa Stoll and her husband Marlin; her great-grandchildren, Riley Stoll, Audrina Stoll, and Asher Stoll; her sister-in-law’s, Zondra Myers, and Shirley (Myers) Oetzel and her husband Larry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
