Sharon Lee English, 94 of Vincennes, IN, passed away March 30, 2026, at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville.
Sharon was born November 2, 1931, in DeSmet, SD, to Louis and Anna Dubro Gehm. She grew up on their homestead farm nearby, and attended DeSmet High School, where she met her future husband, Pat English. After graduating in 1948, Sharon worked in a law office until they married September 4, 1952.
They lived in Huron, SD, where their 6 children were born, and in 1969 the family moved to Vincennes, IN. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and talented homemaker, Sharon worked at The Baby Shop for 20 years, and after that joined Niehaus Home Center, where she worked as a secretary until her retirement in 2000.
A member of St. John's Catholic Church (now St. Francis Xavier Parish), Sharon was active in several church ministries, including Altar Society and the choir. As a Eucharistic minister, she took communion to hospital patients and nursing home residents for many years.
Along with Pat, Sharon traveled throughout the United States, from Maine to Hawaii, Florida to the Pacific Northwest. In later years, she enjoyed shorter trips to visit family, reading, and watching classic movies, musicals and comedies. Many an afternoon was spent solving a good murder mystery on Netflix or Britbox. She'll be lovingly remembered for her strong faith, selfless nature, kindness and humor.
Sharon is survived by her children, Mike English (Janice), Shari Sherman (Byron), Cathy English, Jean Dopher (Ken), Bob English, and Diane English (Pat Bonfils); brothers-in-law, Don English (Cecilia); and Dick Seib; grandchildren, Mandi Schooler, Jaclyn Falkenstein, Caitie Dopher, Michael Dopher, and Triston English; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Pat; her parents; brother Robert Gehm; sisters, Hazel Lembke and Audrey Gehm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday April 8 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. Sharon will be laid to rest next to her husband Pat in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from noon until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Parish. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Sharon and her family.
