Shirley W. Black, 85, of Vincennes was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father on May 22nd, 2025. She was born on November 18th, 1939, in Vincennes. The sixth of nine children born to Walter & Christina (Williams) Taylor.
Shirley met the love of her life, Donald Black, in January of 1960. They were engaged on February 2nd and married on July 29th of the same year. Over their 65 years together they built a beautiful life raising four very loved children: Kimberly & Leon Enlow, Donnie Black II, Shawna & Kent Butler and Tonya & Brian Grove. She always referred to each of her children as her “pride and joy”.
Shirley & Don later welcomed six grandchildren whom she adored; Joshua Enlow, Mikayla Butler, Deaton Grove, Delaynie Grove, Dylan Butler & Daniel Butler.
Shirley was a life long member of St. John’s UCC, where she spent many years teaching the Kindergarten Sunday School class and as a nursery attendant. She also baby sat for many children over the years.
She will always be remembered for her warm, strong hugs and how she always wanted to make sure that her family was taken care of in any way that she could. When not caring for her family, Shirley enjoyed crocheting, sewing and reading.
She is survived by her husband, children & grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her mother and father, her in-laws(Edward & Susan Black), three brothers and five sisters.
