Shirley Louise (Fox) Cerveny, 90, of Washington, passed away peacefully at 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

Born on May 15, 1936, in Washington, Indiana, Shirley was the daughter of Dallas and Mabel (Gammon) Fox. She graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1954 and later dedicated several years of service as a nurse’s aide at Daviess Community Hospital before retiring.

On December 31, 1959, Shirley married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Cerveny. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on January 18, 2013.

Shirley found her greatest happiness in her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy and were the center of her life. She was a talented seamstress who was especially known for creating beautiful and intricately detailed Barbie wedding gowns and formal dresses. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting baby blankets for family and friends, and she spent many hours pursuing her love of cross-stitching. Shirley took pride in her flower gardens and delighted in watching hummingbirds visit her yard.

She is survived by her children, David (Jill) Cerveny, Suzanne Riggle, and Carol (Jon) Ashby; grandchildren, Erin (Dustin) Clark, Brian (Janelle) Riggle, Michael Ashby, Dereck (Sarah) Ashby, and Garrett (Abigail) Ashby; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Carter, and Adalee Riggle, Caitlin and Brecklin Cox, and Logan, Adalynn, Greyson, Everleigh, and Michael Ashby; and siblings, Beverly Lovett, Melvin Fox, and Betty Jo Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Cerveny; her parents, Dallas and Mabel Fox; and her siblings, Rozella Fox, Tommy Fox, Linda Maharrey Gill, and Rita Taylor.

Shirley will be remembered for her loving heart, devotion to her family, creative talents, and the many treasured memories she leaves behind. Her legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 11:00am-1:00pm ET at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State St., Washington, Indiana 47501. A funeral service will begin at the conclusion of visitation. Following services, Shirley will be laid to rest beside her husband Bob at New Veale Creek Cemetery in Washington.
