Shirley Ann Perkins, a beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at the age of 89 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN with her family by her side. Shirley was born on May 18, 1937, in Washington, IN the daughter of Clarence and Hazel (Kendall) Fleetwood. She married Vaughn Allen Perkins on August 6, 1956, and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2022.
Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church and found immense joy in tending to her garden and mowing her yard. She had a special affection for flowers and loved spending time outdoors, soaking up the sun and embracing the beauty of the world around her. Her green thumb not only brightened her own home but brought joy to those around her.
An avid sports fan, Shirley passionately supported the St. Louis Cardinals, IU Basketball, and the Indiana Fever. She cherished the thrill of game days and the camaraderie of cheering for her favorite teams. Shirley also looked forward to her fun trips to French Lick and the excitement of visiting the boat, always ready for an adventure.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Jana McKown of Washington, Karen Mattingly and her husband Steve of Newburgh, Kathy Moody and her husband Tim of Bedford, Rick Perkins and his wife Ann of Washington; her special niece, Jackie Yates of Melbourn, FL; her beloved grandchildren, Matt Moody and his wife Tiffany, Brooke Prince and her husband Jason, Ashley Lewis and her husband Ryan, Lindsay Mattingly, Holly Greenwell and her husband Eli, Kelsey Fowlkes and her husband Alex, Sampson McKown, Elizabeth Perkins and her fiancée Tony; and eight great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with Shirley's family from 10:00 am until the hour of service time of noon on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State Street, Washington, IN 47501. Yvonne Evans will officiate and Shirley will be laid to rest in Sugarland Memory Garden Mausoleum. The Perkins family has requested memorial contributions be made to Daviess County Friends for Animals in Shirley's name. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is privileged and honored to be entrusted with the care of Shirley and her family.
