Obituary for Shirley Ann Longest Shidler**With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Longest Shidler, who left us peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 86. Shirley was born on March 21, 1940, in the small town of Vincennes, Indiana, where she spent all of her life. She will be remembered not just for the years she lived, but for the love she shared, the smiles she brought, and the moments she created with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Shirley dedicated much of her professional life to the retail industry, spending many years as a devoted employee at Wal-Mart. Her warm spirit and genuine kindness made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and customers alike. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her laughter and generous heart will linger in the memories of those she touched.
Above all, Shirley was a proud mother of five loving children Mark Shidler, Vanessa Fox husband Ron, Jana Grass husband Timothy, Marlena Marks husband Kevin, David Shidler, 10 grandchildren Tom Fox wife Laura, Nicole Schomaker husband Brent, Sarah Trier husband Matthew, Kiala Washburn husband Ryan, Ben Fox wife Nicole, Savanah Byrer husband Cody, Branden Grass, Arielle Shidler, Cade Marks, Kayelah Willoughby husband Dillon, 18 great grandchildren Max, Ashton, George, Fiona, Ricci, Lillian, Philo, Olive, Brick, Briar, Reahgen, Kherington, Griffin, Beau, Brooks, Brett, Jacob, Amelia, and Joshua, along with special nieces nephews, and other relatives and longtime friends the Ritterskamp girls.
Shirley is preceded in death by the love of her life and best friend and husband George Shidler, her parents Thomas and Belva Robinson Longest, her siblings, Bob Longest, Virginia Longest Cook, Carolyn Longest Blubaum, Dorothy Longest Eddleman, Mary Ellen Longest. and Bud Kenneson.
Shirley was a graduate of the 1958 class of Lincoln High, lifetime member of The First Church of God, she loved her family very much! She loved to cook and bake for many years. Watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana Fever and avid sports fan. Reading books and cross words were among her favorite things to do.
Funeral Services for Shiley Ann Longest Shidler will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home in Vincennes, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes Indiana. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Beil.
As we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that Shirley's spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, reminding us all of the beauty of connection and the strength of love.
