Stephen Sandefer

Stephen M. Sandefer, 68, of Bicknell, passed away Dec. 26, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital.Steve retired from the Washington Community School System, teaching from 1969 to 2005. He was a graduate of Wheatland High School, and received his associate degree from Vincennes University, his bachelor's degree from Oakland City College, and his master's degree from Indiana State University.A two term Bicknell City Councilman, he was a member of ISRTA, NEA, the French Club, and the GWRRA. He had also operated Sandefer's Creative Photography.Born Sept. 25, 1946, in Vincennes, he was the son of John Henry and Clarice Ruth (Patrick) Sandefer. His parents, and a daughter, Melissa Jean Sandefer, preceded him.Surviving is his wife, Jean (Dupire) Sandefer, whom he married Nov. 3, 1972; sons, Stephen C. Sandefer of Bicknell, and Matthew Sandefer, and his wife, Hilary, of Bruceville, IN; and his grandchildren, Tanner, Caylee, Ethan, Hayden, and Ellie Sandefer.Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 on Tuesday at the Goodwin Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, at 2:00, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.
